How are you today?
Are you full of energy and feeling like rocking the world? Or are you lazy and demotivated?
Motivation influences what you study, what you eat, what relationships you have, where you work, or what you want to achieve. Yet, there are moments when you feel completely drained.
Many wonder how to get motivated again. How do you keep going when you don’t feel like?
Let me spill a secret:
You never lose motivation. It is always there.
Open and close doors
Think about your day. Breakfast is followed by a snack. It’s time for lunch. You become hungry again. Take another snack in the afternoon. In the end, you enjoy dinner. Maybe even a sweet treat before sleeping.
Motivation is just like that. It fluctuates as your days go:
You are high on motivation, work hard, then have a shortage of energy from all the stress and mental pressure, and your drive drops down.
When you finish the first project, you feel successful. When you finish your second one, it is ok. When it’s the third one, you are almost bored.
Motivation is like an open and closed door. You use them to walk in and out.
It is not about money
Money and status are what people want. Right? Yet, a fancy email signature won’t make you happier. Short-term, maybe, but long-term, definitely not.
It's hard when we pin our happiness on the belief, "I will be happier or more satisfied when x happens." Rarely does the achievement of x change our long-term outlook. - Melissa Carson
Think bigger and long-term. Where are you now, and where do you want to be?
It is not about your next promotion but where you want to land in the future. Can your company or your job get you there?
If you are lost, open up and discuss it with people you can trust.
3 components of motivation
Once you imagine where you want to be, you may feel the desire to make that reality. You see yourself in a dream house, traveling the world, or starting your own business. Then, you think BUT…
Achieving your goals requires more than just creative imagination. It needs:
Activation: decide to start and make a game plan
Persistence: continue step by step, fail, learn, and move forward.
Intensity: Concentrate on your process to get the most out of it.
…and what it needs most is to change negative thoughts.
Sometimes, you just have to start to see if it’s actually working. Don’t be shy and critical. Even if you fail, you progress somewhere, and this experience will motivate you to start something from scratch.
“I am thankful for my struggle because without it I wouldn’t have come across my strength.” – Alex Elle
The bottom line is: There is nothing like a ‘motivated professional’ as everyone has motivation. Sometimes you need to walk through the door and see what’s behind it to spark new energy.
It is not about you can’t. You always can because motivation never leaves you.
