Hampton Dortch helps people not waste their 20s.
The advice he got after he graduated was:
“When you’re 22 years old, go where you’re going to grow the most.”
So, he joined Wildsparq and works with CEOs, HR leaders & other executives to develop strategies for growing their leaders.
Hampton used to think that the best leaders were people with high levels of charisma. This led to him trying to always be the loudest, boldest, or funniest person in the room. Over the last few years, he’s learned that nobody wants to be led by someone like that. They want a servant leader.
His "night job" is equipping the next generation to learn to lead themselves. While he is extremely passionate about helping organizations have strategies for developing their people, it comes down to the individual to take ownership of their growth.
His primary way of speaking to Gen Z is through the podcast, Wake Up & Lead. He mostly interviews people in their 20s who are leading themselves at a high level.
Tip to overcome generational differences?
“Ask people about their story. Figure out how they were shaped. Figure out some of the key events from their life. Ask them about what they cared about when growing up. Ask them about hard things.” - Hampton Dortch
